High school coaches know that parents often mistakenly  assume that the recruiting process begins during an athlete's senior year in high school.  But, as all high school coaches know, colleges begin their evaluation of athletes much earlier - often in the freshman year.  They know that the earlier a prospect is identified to colleges, the better the college coaches can track the athlete's progress - thus, the better the athlete's chances of being recruited. 

High school coaches understand that NCAA rules limit college coaches in the number of visits they can make, and that these coaches are normally prohibited from making visits to an athlete until the senior year.
